No change in Women’s Bill, says Moily
Ruling out the demand for quota within quota in the Women’s Reservation Bill, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily on Sunday reportedly expressed the UPA government’s ''total commitment'' to the bill in its present form.
“The Congress party... the UPA government is totally committed to this Bill in the form it was passed by the Rajya Sabha,”Moily told a TV channel. In a separate press statement, the minister denied having said in an interview that the government was considering amendment to the Women’s Bill. The Rajya Sabha last week passed the Bill giving one-third representation to women in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has said he, along with RJD president Lalu Prasad and JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav, would wage a battle against the Bill.
