The sub-divisional Senior Citizens’ Tribunal has ordered that the movable assets of Gadag Zilla Panchayat member Shivakumar Neelagund be attached, for failing to abide by the order to pay a maintenance of Rs 25,000 per month to his father.

Lingabasappa, Shivakumar’s father had petitioned the tribunal saying it had become difficult for him to manage his expenses as his son was not taking care of him.

The tribunal had ordered Shivakumar, on April 26 to deposit Rs 25,000 every month in the bank account of Lingabasappa. Shivakumar failed to oblige and did not appear before the tribunal, despite issue of several notices.

The warrant to attach Shivakumar’s assets was issued on November 21. The tribunal has ordered the attachment of the movable assets owned by Shivakumar at Menasagi of Ron taluk in Gadag district.

An amount of Rs 1.5 lakh has to be deposited in the bank account of Lingabasappa - who runs a soda shop in Gaddanakeri of the taluk and lives in a rented house in Navanagar - within seven days of the warrant being issued, after selling the movable assets.

Shivakumar, for his part, said that there was a dispute between him and his father as the latter sold a property in Bagalkot without his knowledge. He said that his mother was staying with him and that he was taking good care of her.
