BJP for higher compensation to Almatti land losers

Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar demanded in the Assembly that the government pay compensation for lands to be acquired for raising the height of Almatti dam at the prevailing market prices as that of 2013 would cause losses to the land losers.

Shettar said that 1.20 lakh hectares would be acquired for raising the height of the Almatti dam and compensation for the landowners as per the 2013 Act would cause them huge losses.  Fast-unto-deathFarmers under the leadership of former minister S K Bellubi began fast-unto-death on Thursday. The government should announce compensation at the present market value of land and request the farmers to withdraw their protests, he said.

Law Minister T B Jayachandra said that the chief minister had discussed the issue and the government is open to consider the demands of farmers.
