Justice Sachar tells states to implement his report

Last Updated 27 November 2016, 19:40 IST

Justice Rajinder Sachar, retired chief justice of the Delhi High Court on Sunday suggested the states ruled by ‘secular’ parties to adopt the Sachar committee report on the social, economic and educational conditions of the Muslim community in the country.

Justice Sachar, who headed the committee set up during the previous UPA government, was speaking at the Muslim Empowerment Convention organised by the Karnataka Muslim Co-ordination Committee here.

“The report is in favour of equality and not pro-Muslim community. The report need not be implemented by the Central government alone. Even the state governments can implement suggestions in their respective states,” he said.

Stating that some political parties were using the Muslim community as vote bank, he asked political parties to adopt the committee report in the states ruled by them. Lok Sabha constituencies with more Muslim population should be reserved for the community. There would be about 30-40 MPs from the Muslim community if the committee recommendation is implemented, he added.
