For the love of Mexican food

Monkey Bar, known to be one of the first gastropub’s in India, is celebrating all things Mexican with their ‘Taco Libre Festival'. An exclusive menu with lip-smacking taco dishes on offer has been launched along with their regular food and drinks menu.

We headed to their Vasant Kunj outlet. All the variants are available in both soft and hard taco shells and we decided to try variants in both of them.

We were first suggested to try their ‘Confit Duck’ and ‘Beer Can Chicken’ tacos. Both were served in their in-house soft tortilla shells.

The ‘Confit Duck’ taco with tamarind glazed duck, jalapeno, cucumber sticks and green onions was a good start. The duck was perfectly cooked and had the desirable sweet and sour taste of tamarind.

The ‘Beer Can Chicken’ taco, with shredded chicken smeared in beer, the taco included sweet peppers, scrambled cottage cheese and jalapeno hot sauce. Even though a little on the spicier side, the taco was a delight to have.

‘Sausage and Pulled Pork Tacos’ along with ‘Fried Fish Tacos’ in hard tortilla shells came in next. The former, including bacon, spicy barbeque sauce, red cabbage and pork scratchings, was a little chewy, but flavoursome.

The ‘Fried Fish Tacos', however, were the highlight of the evening, and definitely a must try! The crispiness of hard tortilla shells blended perfectly with marinated fried fish. Drenched in spicy flavours, one will surely enjoy this taco till
the last bite.

We coupled our meal with their ‘Beamer’ and ‘Bourbon’ LIITS. The drinks were a refreshing and smoother as compared to the LIITs served in most cafes and pubs.
From the vegetarian section of tacos, we were suggested ‘Mushroom, Bean and Corn’ taco in soft tortilla shell. A combination of chipotle, sour cream, cheddar cheese and mayonnaise on bell peppers and mushrooms and corns, seemed ideal for vegetarian food lovers.

We then ordered ‘Cajun Style Shrimp’ tacos, which were mildly flavoured. The taste of shrimp with tacos might not be everyone’s favourite, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.

So the Taco Libre menu has a lot in store and one might not want to look at their regular menu, except for desserts.

We concluded our sumptuous meal with ‘Churros’ dipped in hot chocolate and ‘Old Monkey Chocolate Cake'.

The Taco Libre festival at Monkey Bar, Vasant Kunj is on till December 4.
