Cash crunch: Now an app to pay helpers

Last Updated 01 December 2016, 18:44 IST

The currency ban has made many Indians opt for cashless options wherever they can — buying groceries, paying bills and so on.

Making use of this demonetisation move, SERV’D Tech, a FinTech operated impact enterprise, has come up with an app through which one can pay salary to maids, cooks, nannies and drivers.

“We have been working on this idea for a year now, and the currency ban has really helped us. We launched the app last month, and it has seen more than 450 downloads so far. Of the total, 100 have turned into contracts,” says SERV’D co-founder Jatin Agarwal.

To begin with, the Pune-based firm is focussing only on maids. “If you take domestic workforce, there are 10 million in urban India. In case of financial constraints, they end up getting loans with exorbitant interests. We want to leverage technology to bring out a sustainable change in them,” Agarwal says.

One has to download the app and register themselves and service providers, and create a contract, upload Aadhaar card and enter bank details. They can use the application as a home management system that marks leaves and gives ratings and reviews to service providers like maids.

“In the next three months, we are confident of getting close to 20,000 contracts. In another one year, we are targeting one lakh contracts across 10 cities,” he concludes.
