<div>A decision was taken at the taluk panchayat general body meeting to withhold salary of sub-registrar and Labour department officials for repeatedly absenting themselves from the meetings. Taluk Panchayat president M Anjinappa fumed at the officials, who failed to turn up for the meeting held here recently and charged that the official was purposely skipping meetings, although there were discussions pending on ‘e-Swathu’, new sites and layouts. He then asked the members whether the salary of the official be withheld.<br /><br />Member Gopalaswamy said Rs 225 had to be paid at the sub-registrar office to get an EC and the officials did not provide the receipt for the money received. “The officials do not turn up for the meeting, although many such issues need to be discussed. It is apt to withhold their salary,” he added. All the members later unanimously resolved to withhold the salary of the absentee officials.<br /><br />Anjinappa said thousands of applications were pending before the Labour department. “Officials are not attending the meeting to discuss the problems. Crores of rupees of grants is going wasted due to official apathy,” he added. The TP president said houses in Dhanamatnahalli, Betta Hosapura, Medihala and surrounding villages were developing cracks because of stone quarrying in the area. He sought a reply from Mining and Geology department official as to what measures were taken to put an end to the problem.<br /><br />“You are giving permission to stone quarrying. People are finding it to stay in their own houses. We build houses for the poor using panchayat funds. But you give permission to bring them down. Take steps to ensure that the people lead a peaceful life,” he told the official.<br /><br />Agriculture department Assistant Director, Rangaswamy said demand for farm ponds had increased. “However permissions are not being given for new ones, since a bill amounting to Rs 3 crore is yet to be released,” he added. He told the meeting that crops on 19,600 hectare were destroyed and a proposal for Rs 12 crore compensation was submitted.<br /><br />Geetha, Assistant Director, Youth and Sports Affairs department said the government had released Rs 53 lakh grant for various development projects.
