Romcoms don't stay romcoms in Hindi cinema: Ranveer

Last Updated 06 December 2016, 12:11 IST

Actor Ranveer singh feels Bollywood is yet to bring a pure romantic comedy.
The actor, who will be next seen in Aditya Chopra-directed "Befikre", romcoms end up being a love story at the end of the film.

"In Hindi cinema, romcoms don't stay romcoms because what starts off is a romcom and at some point it becomes a love story," Ranveer told reporters during a promotional event of "Befikre".

Ranveer said his new release will break that stereotype with its original material, written by Chopra.

"So far, we've seen in romcoms that during interval there would be some conflict and it will precipitate the entire second half and then by the third act somebody is dealing with heavy emotions and drama gets really high.

"But 'Befikre' is a true blue Hindi romantic comedy and that is our attempt and Adi sir's especially."

The actor says the director believes that the Indian audience's perspective towards the genre is evolved.

"Adi sir believes that the Indian audience has evolved and it's not necessary that they get a heavy dose of emotion in order to feel fulfilled by film watching experience.

"It's a light-hearted film. Of course, there's an emotional connect but it is in balanced degree. So, our attempt is to present true Hindi romantic comedy and that is the freshness factor in the film."
