JOIN US A rowdy was hacked to death by two unidentified men in JC Nagar early Thursday morning.
Vijay Kumar, 23, a resident of Anjaneya Temple Street in J C Nagar, was employed as a security guard at a mall in Malleswaram West.
He was living with his mother and brother, Arjun Kumar, an auto driver. Kumar’s father, Rajendran, was also a rowdy, and the two men were involved in several criminal activities in Vasanth Nagar area, police sources said.
“It is a murder due to an old rivalry,” said a senior police officer investigating the murder. Police suspect the involvement of two youths, Sridhar (28), and his brother Indrakumar (26), as they have absconded after the murder.
The police have formed a team and are searching for the assailants. “There are some clues and the assailants will be arrested soon,” the investigating officer said. Vijay Kumar was allegedly involved in a few criminal cases and was a registered rowdy-sheeter at the High Grounds station, police told Deccan Herald.
They added that Kumar had indulged in a drunken brawl with Shridar at a Vasanth Nagar bar on August 29, 2012. Cases of attempted murder were registered against both men after a complaint and a counter-complaint were filed. “The High Grounds police had arrested Vijay and Sridhar, but they were released on bail,” police said.
The murder was committed after Kumar was returning home in his two-wheeler at around 12.30 am. Police suspect that Sridhar and Indrakumar were waiting in ambush near the Anjaneya Temple Street, both carrying sharp-edged weapons.
“They accosted the victim when he approached the temple. They pushed him down and attempted to attack him. Kumar, however, initially escaped and ran away. The pair tracked him down and killed him,” police said.
An eye-witness to the crime was the victim’s brother, Arjun Kumar, who was returning home from a friend’s house. He later told police that he saw the two youths attacking Vijay but did not stop them as he feared for his own life.
Arjun Kumar rushed to JC Nagar police station to lodge a complaint.
Vijay Kumar’s body has been sent to Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College for post-mortem.
