Themes from murder mysteries to horror tales have been showcased in movie projects and experiments like ‘ U-Turn’ have grabbed eyeballs across the globe. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Thriller movies have increased in multitude in 2016, after the success of ‘RangiTaranga’ in 2015, points out Abhiraam, director of upcoming scientific thriller ‘Samyuktha 2’. “The genre has definitely gone through a huge transformation. Now it is seeing experiments by both experienced and new directors. With successful movies coming out in the genre, people are excited to see the different perspectives,” he says. <br /><br />He adds that subjects like scientific thrillers are universal concepts and are bound to click with everyone. An avid fan of Upendra, Abhiraam was inspired by the 1990’s movie ‘Shhh!’ which brought the concept of thriller movies to the industry. “People like to watch something exciting. These movies create a curiosity among the audience and since these projects are being appreciated, more and more projects are following,” says Abhiraam.<br /><br />The audience is looking for something different with each release, vouches director PC Shekar. “Television is dominating the entertainment industry with its teleserials that offer melodrama, music and more. Having worked on movies like ‘Arjuna’ and ‘Style King’, I feel that the audience is forever looking for new forms of entertainment which will keep them on the edge of their seats. Thriller movies are just that,” he says. <br /><br />Though the highest selling point in movie projects is romance, thriller projects are taking the industry by storm. “I wanted to excite the audience and this is why I chose to create thriller projects too,” he says. These movies are just as exciting for the filmmaker as the end product is for the audience, vouches Akash Srivatsa, director of ‘Badmaash’, a political thriller. “Projects in the thriller genre, be it horror or suspense or infused with drama or politics, have become top choices for entertainment. It is a nice genre to work with as it gives the screenwriters a lot to think about,” says Akash. <br /><br />He adds that this genre doesn’t always need a big cast to click. “The genre excites the audience easily and only the treatment of the script matters here. Thrillers are here to stay and they have increased in volume in the last one year,” says Akash.<br />Director Lohith H believes that more and more scripts are coming up in the thriller genre as many filmmakers think that it is easier to make these films, especially in terms of budget. “Many believe that these films can be created with a smaller budget and fresh cast. But for any script to click, it has to have its unique elements,” says Lohith. <br /><br />He adds that the audience is slowly getting saturated with the sight of big actors doing romantic plots and drama and are looking for new-age movies that can keep one excited till the climax. “After ‘Mummy’ came out, seeing the response of the audience, I have decided to work on yet another thriller film with Priyanka Upendra,” he details. <br /><br />Lohith adds that younger film artistes are more open to exploring the thriller genre. “People are also tired of seeing similar stories onscreen and want more excitement in the theatres,” he adds. <br /></p>
