NEET to decide medical, dental seats from next year

Last Updated 11 December 2016, 19:25 IST

The Karnataka Examinations Authority has announced that the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be the only test for candidates aspiring to bag medical and dental seats from 2017-2018 academic year.

Even as the Common Entrance Test would not be conducted for the Medical and Dental streams, it would conducted as usual for engineering, farm sciences, Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy, pharmacy and bachelors in Veterinary Science courses.

The KEA will allocate the medical and dental seats based on the scores the student gets in NEET. The merit list prepared by the KEA would apply for the government share in medical and dental colleges.

It maybe recalled that students were put through difficulties with confusion over a Supreme Court ordinance on NEET. There was also confusion over the quota of seats that the private medical colleges will hand over for the state government to allocate.
