A gym instructor, who had placed an order for a mobile phone from an e-commerce company but had no money to pay for it, robbed and killed the man who had come to his door for delivering the product.

The Vijayanagar police have arrested Varun Kumar (22) on the charge of murdering Nanjundaswamy (28), a delivery man. Incidentally, the crime was solved on the basis of call records.

According to police, Kumar had asked his father to get him a new mobile phone, but the later refused and asked his son to purchase the instrument with his own earnings.

Kumar, who had no money, planned a robbery to get the phone. On December 8, Kumar placed an order with an e-commerce company for a new mobile phone.

The next day (December 9), Nanjundaswamy called Kumar on his phone for delivering the product. The latter asked Nanjundaswamy to meet him near the gym where he worked, at Saraswathinagar in Vijayangar. The gym is housed in a building which has a bank also.
Kumar took Nanjundaswamy to the cellar of the building and hit him on his head. The latter collapsed on the spot and succumbed to his injuries. Kumar took away the new mobile phone he had booked, one more phone and Rs 10,000 in cash which were in Nanjundaswamy’s bag.

Since Nanjundaswamy did not return home, his family members lodged a missing complaint with the Byatarayanapura police on December 11.

His mobile phone was switched off. Meanwhile, the police found the body in Saraswathinagar, which was identified by Nanjundaswamy’s family members.

On analysing call records of the deceased, the police found that Nanjundaswamy had made his last call to Kumar. It was found that Kumar worked in the same building where the murder took place. Kumar was summoned for interrogation, when he confessed to the crime, police said.

Vijayanagar police have registered a case.
