Chess State selection in M’lore from April 2
South Kanada District Chess Association (SKDCA) will conduct all category selecting chess events of the State in Mangalore.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Association President M S Gururaj said that the State selection Chess Event will be held at Sharada Vidyalaya in Kodialbail from April 2 to 11. Under-7 state boys/girls championship (April 2 to April 4), Under-9 state boys/girls championship (April 5 to April 7) and Under-11 state boys/girls championship (April 9 to April 11). Under-13 State Open FIDE Rating Chess Championship will be held on April 12 to 16 and Under-13 State Girls Chess Championship will be held from April 14 to 16 at Subramanya Sabha, Jail Road Mangalore.
Gururaj said that for the first time in the country SKDCA is conducting Under 13 State Chess Championship as FIDE Rating tournament. He said that every time selection chess events are held at different places due to which the participants used to find it difficult to shuttle between places.
This time since the events are held in Mangalore itself, the participants have greater opportunity for participation. Gururaj said that the players should bring their own chess sets, participants should play in their respective age category state selection event to participate in their age category nationals.
However, seeded players and those who have been hospitalised during the selection events will be allowed for nationals on producing medial certificate to the state body. Spot entries will not be allowed and hence participants will have to send in their applications till two days before the event. Contact M S Gururaj 9845032598.
