Jayadeva flyover likely to be razed by April next

Last Updated 24 December 2016, 20:03 IST

In all likelihood, the landmark Jayadeva flyover officially called the Marenahalli flyover will be razed by April-May 2017 making way for a five-level traffic intersection with three grade separators and two metro lines one above the other. An interchange Metro station will also come up at the spot.

“The flyover will be razed but the underpass will be retained, which will become the level-1 transit from Bannerghatta Road starting from Dairy Circle to Bannerghatta National Park. There will be a ground level road in both the directions above the underpass as a level-2 transit.

There will be an elevated four-lane road that will be a level-3 transit. On top of these three road levels there will be two Metro lines – RV Road – Bommasandra line and Gottigere – Nagawara line” said a BMRCL official.

The two-level metro lines, one above the other, will have an interchange Metro station which will be different from all other Metro stations in the city, the official added.

The BMRCL will call for tenders for demolition of the flyover. The demolition of the BDA-built flyover was planned to avoid razing at least 80 buildings. The Jayadeva flyover was built at a cost of Rs 21 crore around 11 years ago and has been a carriageway for huge traffic on Bannerghatta Road.

Demolition of flyover and construction of five-level intersection will take more than 36 months, said the BMRCL official. Before starting the work, BMRCL will submit a report to the traffic police.
