<p>A six-year-old boy was crushed to death when a bird bath made of stone fell on him at Lalbagh on Monday. Vikram Kumar was visiting the botanical gardens with his aunt Eashwari, her daughter Mithali, and two other cousins.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A Class I student at a BBMP school in Srirampura, near Malleswaram, he had holidays for Christmas, and the family was on a picnic. His father N Kumar works as a weaver at a powerloom at Banareddy Circle in Srirampura and his mother Revathi is a homemaker.<br /><br />The bird bath was mounted on a stone structure, four feet in height, at the Bonsai Garden inside Lalbagh. (A bird bath is a water-filled basin in which birds drink, bathe, and cool themselves.)<br /><br />According to Vikram’s uncle Velu Kumar, the boy was leaning on the structure and posing for a photograph when the bird bath fell on him. He denied reports that Vikram had been trying to climb over the structure.<br /><br />Eyewitnesses, however, said Mithali, Vikram’s cousin, placed him on the bird bath and leaned on the structure to pose for a photograph.<br /><br />Vikram was trying to pluck a flower, but Ramachandrappa, a gardener, cautioned him against it. The boy ignored the warning, lost balance, and fell to the ground. The next moment, the bird bath fell on him, eyewitnesses told the police.<br /><br />Vikram sustained severe head injuries and was taken to South City Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.<br /><br />Velu Kumar, who reached the spot after his sister called him, said his two sons Udhay, 12, and Rakshit, 6, were also witnesses. His body was shifted to KIMS Hospital for a postmortem as there was some talk that his organs would be donated.<br /><br />“We will take up a complaint from the boy’s side, and take action on anyone found culpable,” S D Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police, told DH.</p>
