Wittyfeed bets big on regional languages

Last Updated 30 December 2016, 17:04 IST
Wittyfeed.com, which is engaged in viral content, aims to start producing content in regional languages.

“We are currently publishing our content in three major languages — Hindi, English, and Spanish. To reach out to everyone, our content will be soon available in Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali and Marathi languages,” Wittyfeed co-founder and CTO Shashank Vaishnav told DH.

“If we consider South India, we have got an emotional connection too, as we co-founders have studied in Chennai, and so started our entrepreneurial journey from there. The other major reason to start content in Punjabi, Bengali and Marathi languages is that we share an excellent rapport with the celebrity influencers from these regions, especially from their respective film industry. Starting content in these languages will help us connect with our target audiences in a much broader way,” Vaishnav said.

Launched in September 2014, Wittyfeed, which is a one-stop platform for content creators, consumers, and publishers, has over 100 employees. It has presence in domestic market and international markets like UK, Australia, the US, and Canada.

“We are one of the biggest clients of Google from India, and big media buying companies are eager to get our ad inventory. We are the first company from India to be among the top 75 most read websites in the US and top 25 in the UK. With 120 million unique visitors every month and more than 400 million monthly page views, we are still a bootstrapped company,” Vaishnav claimed.

Wittyfeed is currently valued at $30 million. The company registered a revenue of Rs 26 crore in the last financial year and expects to cross Rs 60 crore revenues this year.

On future plans, Vaishnav said, “In the next two years, we aim to become the world’s largest viral content company. As of now, we are India’s largest viral content company, and the second largest in the world in terms of traffic numbers.”

“On average, over 100 million users visit Wittyfeed every month. As far as scope in the Indian market is concerned, the content industry is going to become the next big thing in India soon,” Vaishnav said.
