There is a special focus not only on the economic ties between India and the United Kingdom, but also on the cultural ties, British MP Virendra Sharma said here on Friday.

“To enhance cultural ties with India in general and Karnataka in specific, we have started screening Indian movies in the UK. Some of Shiva Rajkumar’s movies have already been screened, and there are many more to come,” said the Indian-origin Labour MP for Ealing Southall in an exclusive interaction with DH.

On the visa row between India and the US, Sharma emphasised that there is a need for change in people’s mindset. “Of late, there has been lot of concern in the UK regarding immigrant students. Having said that, there needs to be a change in the mindset that these students come there for learning and value addition,” Sharma, one of Britain’s senior-most MPs, said.

He also referred to Brexit as a temporary bubble. “I think this bubble is going to burst soon, and both countries will be able to overcome it smoothly,” he said, adding that he is expecting more investments from Indians in the UK.
