Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 6th Udupi District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana-2010 here on Saturday, he said that all the recent literary meets have been witnessing litterateurs bombarding at political leaders. Positive criticism is indeed welcome. However, it is a negative trend witnessed, that calls for full stop. Plans are on for the newly built ‘Karantha Kalagrama’ near Manipal to be allied with Udupi District Kannada Sahitya Parishath. It should be made centre of all literary activities taking place in the district. Allocations will be made under non-plan schemes, he added.

In the current scenario, we should be competent enough to take advantage of positive impact of globalisation if we have to catch up with the fast moving world. The Government is giving priority to promoting the language and related literary activities, Acharya said and added that the Government decision to set up a Sanskrit University is really a laudable endeavour.  Delivering the presidential address, renowned litterateur Dr U P Upadhaya said that we are in urgent need of a blend of humanity and humanism with affection based ideologies. Literature should harbour love and humanity. We don’t need any sort of ‘isms’ like feminism, communism, and Dalitism. Rather, there is a need of an environment filled with affection and humanity, he added.

“‘Sahitikala Ashrama’ should be built enabling space for all sort of literary activities. Literary camps should be organised where writers and poets from all languages shall share their knowledge to their counterparts,” he said and added that elaborate plans should be chalked out for the historical growth of the language in the backdrop of the classical status accorded to the language.
