The Drishti National Dance Festival 2017, celebrating Indian and international genres of art forms will be held on January 21, 6 pm at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

The brainchild of bharatanatyam danseuse Anuradha Vikranth and her husband T M Vikranth, the 12th edition of ‘Drishti’, will bring together world class performers from the field of dance. The programme includes ‘Mayura Sandesha’, a ‘Nirupama-Chitra Nritya’ by Anuradha Vikranth. ‘Mayura Sandesha’ is a solo dance narrative elucidating the longing of the tribal heroine Valli for her beloved hero Skanda. A unique ’Chitra Nritya’ technique is introduced in this dance feature where the dancer dances on a spread canvas. While dancing, the peacock is drawn with her feet, making the beautiful bird her messenger to bring back her beloved hero.

‘Aakash’ by Natya and Stem Dance Kampni is a contemporary aerial choreography along with the choreographic dance numbers, creating a unique mosaic of images. It is directed by Madhu Natraj.

‘Lasya Mohana’ will be presented by Gopika Varma and ensemble.  It is an enchanting presentation of mohiniattam. Also in the programme is ‘Arpana’ a bharatanatyam presentation by the Drishti Dance Ensemble. On this occasion, Padmini Ravi and Bala Devi Chandrashekar from the USA will be felicitated with ‘Drishti Puraskar’ for their contribution to the field of dance.

Drishti Art Foundation, established by T M Vikranth and Anuradha Vikranth is dedicated to nurture, promote and propagate classical arts. Its main activities include  imparting training in dance; publishing 'Drishti', an exclusive magazine on dance and music; organising workshops, seminars and dance festivals; and collaborating with other cultural organizations to promote art. The Drishti Art Centre also promotes young talented dancers by giving them the platform to perform through ‘Drishti Dance Ensemble’.
