The brand, which was conceptualised by Monali Ranka, offers the best of styles after understanding different silhouettes, colours , textures, fabric, embroidery and embellishments. The studio has its own pret and couture collection that includes saris, bridal ‘lehengas’, crop tops, Indo-western ensembles, gowns and cocktail wear. The studio also houses other labels, like ‘Gaurav Gupta’, ‘Rimple & Harpreet Narula’, ‘Rithika Bhasin’, ‘Heena Kocchar’ and ‘Preeti S Kapoor’.

‘Fulki’ means spark and true to its meaning, the label intends to ignite or bring a new dimension to something which already exists. “My silhouettes vary from straight military lines to dramatic drapes, robes and sheer billowy jackets. My passion for historic art and ancient textiles can be found in the ‘gota’ work, ‘kinari’ work, ‘mukashe’, ‘salma’, ‘zari’ and ‘zardosi’, that are included in my designs,” she says.

The trends of the season are decided by the designer’s mood. “One’s mind is influenced by the weather and what is happening around one. The latest collection includes a lot of silks and brocades. The collection also has jumpsuits and bodysuits that have a Western influence in traditional flower patterns. A lot of flairs can be seen in the latest collection,” says Monali.

The brand’s designs are for the stylish women who are 18 years old and above. “I have blended fabrics together like chiffon and silk among others. The latest collection has water-dyes and sky-dyes, where in one can see a wave of colours,” she says. “The collection is more on the royal side. Vibrant colours like crimson, rust orange, fuchsia pink, midnight blue and teal dominate the season,” she adds.

From ‘achkan’ to long ‘anarkalis’, flaired outfits to flowing ensembles and long dresses, the brand offers style solutions for all women. Fashion and style for the brand means adding the ‘oomph’ factor to silhouettes that may exist already. “Even if it is a ‘lehenga’, I love adding varied cuts to make it different from what is already there. We have added cold shoulders, off-shoulder blouses for saris to make the ensembles stand out. The moment the customer is ready to try out fusion-wear, she is ready for our outfits,” Monali says.
