'Cinema has no barriers'

Actor Aditi Rao Hydari, who will soon be seen in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming Tamil film, says the filmmaker has a different style of showing love on-screen.  Aditi says she ticked off a long-standing wish from her bucket list when she was approached for the director’s ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’.

“From my childhood itself, I wished to work with Mani Ratnam some day. Years later, I finally shot for ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ with him and it broke the complacency within me. I took up the film because I was moved by the character. By the time I finished reading the script, I was in tears,” Aditi said.

“There are certain roles you want on your resume. This is one of them. Mani sir makes it an endearing one. He has a natural gift of showing love in a magical way,” the 30-year-old said. The ‘Wazir’ actor took up the challenge of learning a new language (Tamil) and worked hard to fit into the fabric of a new industry.

“I was certain about the fact that I wanted to perfect the language. I didn’t want people to say, ‘Oh, she didn’t know Tamil and still she wasn’t half-bad’. Cinema has no barriers. What drives me on is working with the right director. When you like the story and script, the rest doesn’t matter.” The romantic film, which also stars actor Karthi in the lead, is slated to release in March.
