3- day green banking conference to discuss demonetisation, remonetisation issues

Video conference with Oman bankers highlight

Department of Commerce, University College, will organise a three-day international conference on ‘Green Banking: Perceptions and Challenges’, at Nandini Hall, NGO building near the college at Hampankatta in the city from February 1 at 9.30 am. The banking sector can play an intermediary role between economic development and environmental protection, by promoting environmentally sustainable and socially responsible investment. The banking of this kind can be termed as ‘Green Banking.’  

The themes to be discussed are banking in the global environment, banking and information technology, green banking product and services, green banking infrastructure, green banking initiatives, green banking: problems and prospects, Indian banking transformation through green banking, future of green banking in India, empowerment of bank through green banking, role of RBI in green banking and bank management and commerce related issues.

Inaugural session
State Bank of Mysore DGM Giridhar S will inaugurate the conference, while Prof Jim Hogan from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, will be the guest of honour. Karnataka Bank general manager (Legal and Recovery Cell) Dr Meera Letitia Aranha will deliver the keynote address. The conference will have three plenary sessions where issues related to green banking will be discussed. A video conference by foreign bankers from Oman and pre-recorded video presentation by foreign delegates from Malaysia will be highlights. A panel discussion on the theme ‘500/1000 versus 2000’ is organised on February 2. Around 250 research papers on green banking and related aspects will be presented over the three days by the conference delegates from all over India and abroad.

The valedictory session will be held on February 3. The proceedings will be published with ISBN through Excel India Publications, New Delhi, to make them available for further reference and practice.
