Madras Engineer Group (MEG) notched their third win on the trot after beating a lacklustre DYES 2-0 in the BDFA Super Division League at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Wednesday.

Midfielder Ramu netted the opener for MEG with a superb chip in the 7th minute and midfielder Chistopher added another with a clinical penalty in the 27th minute.

MEG moved up to second on the table with nine points from three games, behind leaders Students Union on goal-difference. DYES are seventh with one point from three matches.

MEG started the brighter of the two and were in command for the larger period of the first half against a team that lacked rhythm in their passing and were chasing shadows for most of the time.

Ramu put MEG ahead, beating DYES goalkeeper Sunil Kumar after doing well to get clear of the opposition defenders.

In the 20th minute, MEG forward Liton Shil made his way into the box after dribbling past the DYES defenders but his weak attempt was calmly collected by ’keeper Sunil.

Seven minutes later, MEG got their much-deserved second goal. DYES defender Gowri Shankar was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box while attempting to clear a cross from wingback Brajohn, leaving referee Vijay Kumar with no choice but to point to the spot. Christopher then stepped up and put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

The second half was no different as MEG kept pressing for more goals and they could have extended the lead but for some near misses by subsitute forward Suraj Singh and winger Asif late in the game.

Earlier in the ‘A’ Division, Naresh (19th minute) and Islam (64th minute) netted a goal apiece as Bangalore United defeated ADE 2-0.
