No court respite for Paramount Airways
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, in an interim order, refused to allow Coimbatore-based Paramount Airways to fly its three aircraft, which had been deregistered after receiving complaints from the UK-based GE Capital Aviation Service Ltd (GECAS) for non-payment of lease amount.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan said the court would hear the petition on Friday.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Paramount Airways, prayed the bench to allow the company to operate the three grounded 72-75 seater Embraer planes till the next date of hearing. “We have 27 per cent market share in South India and the passengers are suffering,’’ he added.
The bench said: “You pay some money to them (lessor). You will make money from flying those aircraft.”
Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the UK-based aircraft leasing company GECAS and Celestial Aviation Trading said about $ 10 million was due from the airlines.
