It was an evening to remeber for all those who cherish the good old music of the late R D Burman.

A concert held in the City saw a few musicians (who used to perform with R D Burman) coming together on stage to create a musical experience from the past.  The Original Pancham, a musical tribute to the maestro that was held at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall recently was special because it was rendered by his own team.

The concert was conducted by the same people who had originally recorded the tracks with Pancham. The crowd at the event was a mix of people from all age groups, proving that the music made by the composer is timeless and has continued to touch chords with everyone.

The night was abuzz with energy and so was the stage. The whole auditorium had people screaming. They cheered as soon as the team came on stage.  The team comprised Ramesh Iyer, the conductor; Kishore Sodha, Blasco Monsorate, Raj Sodha, Franco Vaz, Ranjot Gazmer, Homi Mullan, Indranath Mukherjee, Vijay Jadhav, Pradipto Sengupta and Rohan Chavathe.

The singers for the evening were Supratik, Biju Nair, Divya Raghvan and Sinchan. They did justice to the evergreen songs of the great musician. While people often forget the music and concentrate on the words, it was a different scene here.  People realised that it was the music and his orthodox techniques that set R D Burman apart from the rest.

The crowd rejoiced as the team performed numbers such as Jaane Jaan, Ye Jo Mohabbat Hai and Waada Karo. The song Tu Tu Hai Wohi had everyone joining in with the musicians. And the performance of Ye Jawani was amazing.

The troupe continued and went on to perform more melodious numbers like Chand Mera Dil, Gulabi Aankhen, Aane Waala Pal and Mil Gayaa.  But it was the item numbers that got the most whistles and cat calls. There was a shout for Kaanta Lagaa not to mention Dum Maro Dum which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

“It felt nice to listen to the music of great maestros. I think people should listen to such genuine artists at least once in their lifetime,” said Varsha, a music enthusiast.
