Rajya Raitha Sangha and Namma Karnataka Rakshana Vedike workers staged a protest in Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday demanding supply of drinking water and fodder for cattle.

The activists took out a rally from Mini Vidhana Soudha to Azad Circle. Addressing the protesters, Rajya Raitha Sangha district president Udde Gowda said that the district is reeling under drought for the last five years. “The farmers are in distress. The residents are getting one barrel of water a week. The district administration should find a permanent solution to the water woes. Coffee and pepper are drying away without water,” he said.

He urged the government to waive the loans of the farmers from banks.  Namma Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leader Mohankumar said that gomala land should be earmarked for cattle in Tarikere taluk. The work on filling water in 53 water tanks from Amrithapura lift irrigation project should be taken up.

A memorandum was submitted to Additional Deputy Commissioner M L Vaishali on the occasion.
