Former champ Dhankot regains top spot

 Former National champion Shabbir Dhankot moved back into pole position with a commanding display on day three of the Amoeba 27th National Tenpin Bowling championship here on Wednesday.

Bowling on the medium oil conditions, the Tamil Nadu bowler managed three 200-plus scores (215, 203, 235) in the third, fourth and fifth games to end his second block of six games with a pinfall of 1212 at an average of 202.

With Wednesday’s performance, Dhankot (2408) opened up a 41-point overall lead over Karnataka’s Parvez Ahmed (2367). Ahmed had a reasonable outing scoring 1176 (193, 179, 182, 217, 203, 202) with an average of 196 on the day.

Overnight leader Srinath Pobbathi endured a disastrous day, at the end of which, he had slipped to 11th in the table with a pinfall of 2241.

Defending champion Dhruv Sarda (2284) retained his place in the top-five behind West Bengal’s Roshan Goenka (2316) and Vikesh Veer Jain (2297) of Delhi.

The top 40 bowlers will move into Round two, which is slated to begin on Thursday along with the women’s events.
