No alternative planned to steel flyover: BDA

A day after the government scrapped the controversial steel flyover, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) said that it has no alternative plan in place to decongest traffic on the stretch between Basaveswhara Circle and Hebbal flyover.

The authority, however, hopes to go ahead with another contentious 110 km elevated East-West, North-South Corridor.

A senior BDA official told DH that since the state government has cancelled the steel flyover, it has to come up with another alternative. “Meanwhile, work on the elevated corridor will continue,” the official said.

No Money Spent

Asked about the money spent on soil testing for the flyover, an official said that the test was carried out by the contractors. “Soil testing in five locations for the steel flyover, between Cauvery junction and Mehkri circle was done by L&T,’’ he said, adding that the government would repay the company.

“It has to be calculated and due procedures have to be followed. It would take some time to assess how much has to be paid to the company,’’ the official explained.

"The BDA or the state government do not have to pay anything to L&T as no work order was issued. Only letter of acceptance was issued. According to the contract document, the BDA or the state government would have to pay only if any work order was issued,” he said.

This data will however be used for future projects, if any state government plans to implement it. This data will also be helpful for the BBMP to undertake the Ballari Road widening work from BDA office to Mehkri circle.
