Last Updated 06 March 2017, 19:48 IST

Suggestions are pouring in as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) looks forward to prepare a ‘participatory budget’. The civic body has sought suggestions from the public on preparing a people-oriented budget for the next fiscal year.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, M K Gunashekar, the chairman of the BBMP’s Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance, said, “We have received more than 1,500 suggestions online and around 100 in the drop boxes. We will certainly consider them.”

Most of the suggestions pertain to removal of encroachments on lakes, stormwater drains, roads, footpaths, parks and playgrounds. There are suggestions on improving parks and playgrounds, decongesting roads and fixing the sewerage system. There are some suggestions on improving hospitals and schools, he said. “Unlike in the previous years, we will bring out a more realistic budget this year. Our priorities will be the environment with emphasis on lakes and green spaces. We will bring out a welfare budget that will please every section of society,” Gunashekar said. An important pre-budget meeting with Mayor G Padmavathi is scheduled for
March 13, he added.
