For the cause of Kannada schools

From here & there

Of late, we can see a decline in the popularity of Kannada medium schools in the State. Some people are working towards reversing the trend and improving the condition of Kannada medium schools. One such effort is initiated by Veerakaputra Srinivas to develop schools in the border villages. For this, he has started a school adoption campaign through Facebook. While he uses his savings for this purpose, he also reaches out to like-minded people.

Initially, Srinivas and his team studied the status of Kannada medium schools. During the survey, the team realised that the attendance in Kannada schools has been declining over the years. A year ago, his team adopted the government school at Bapur village near Bidar. Srinivas, along with his team, interacted with villagers, cleaned the school surroundings, planted saplings in the school premises and even repaired the school building. The team also donated a computer system, a projector, screen and a water purifying system to the school. Along with improving infrastructure, the team also ensured good teaching staff in the school. The team extended the campaign to Yadgir district and adopted a government school there.

The team distributes learning aides to students and aims at skill development of rural students. “If we improve infrastructure and teaching quality in government schools, parents don’t shift their kids to convents,” says Srinivas. Local members of the team visit the school thrice a week and engage in activity-based learning programmes. The team also involves villagers and parents to achieve sustainable development of the schools. Srinivas and other members of Dr Vishnu Sena Samiti have joined hands in this noble work.
