The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the HIV and AIDS (prevention and control) Bill, 2014 to protect the rights of the individuals infected by the virus.
Those who are denied renting a house or a job because of their HIV positive status would now have a legal tool to fight their case, once the bill becomes a law.
However, it has to be passed by the Lok Sabha and signed by the President to become a law.
Introduced in the Upper House in February 2014, the bill prohibits any discrimination against the HIV positive patients in hospitals and clinics.
