Congress MP seeks regulation of TV serials

Television (TV) serials and its ill-effects came up for discussion again in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with Congress MP P Bhattacharya demanding “necessary steps” to regulate it, saying it has a “terrific impact” on teenagers.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, the lawmaker from West Bengal said the serials telecast on TV have “created a lot of problems” in society.

“It is very, very important. If you kindly observe the TV serials, both at the national and the state level, you will see all sorts of crimes, mala fides and frauds and how all these things have to be done is being shown in TV serials. That has created a terrific impact on teenage boys and girls (sic),” Bhattacharya said.

While saying that it affects the youth, Bhattacharya said one of the reasons for the rise in crimes is TV  serials which have “created such a bad impact” on the minds of the people and is “reflected” in their action.
