Siddaramaiah felicitates six women achievers

Six women achievers were felicitated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the International Women’s Day function organised by the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association at the Vidhana Soudha Banquet hall on Saturday. In the administration category, Yashoda Bopanna, director of the Karnataka Secondary Education and Examination Board, was recognised for her efforts to improve learning achievements of students.

Prof K S Jayasree, vice president, Jagdale Scientific Research Foundation, received the award in the category of medicine for her extensive work on popularising the use of ayurvedic treatment and for her research work in the field.

Women’s development
In the field of women’s development, social workers Prema Manjunath from Hassan and Radha Das from Kundapura were felicitated. Prema has been training women in tailoring and fashion for the past 15 years and Radha has been working to provide education to poor students, provide drinking water, sanitation and other facilities in her village.

In the agriculture and social welfare category, Prema Timannagowdru, president of Raddera Naganuru gram panchayat was felicitated. She enabled rural students to receive quality education and empowered women by forming self-help groups. Ashwini Nithin received the award for photography. A travel photographer, she also writes about the history and ecology of the places she visits.
