The BJP and Congress party leaders on Monday resorted to a fresh round of mudslinging during the campaign for bypoll to Nanjangud Assembly (Reserve) constituency. Former minister and Ballari MP B Sriramulu, who campaigned in the constituency for BJP candidate V Srinivas Prasad, said the state government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has launched several schemes in Nanjangud only with a view to appease voters before the by-election.

“The Congress government will not be able to complete most of the projects as the CM will lose power soon after the by-elections. Though Nanjangud taluk is reeling under severe drought for the past two years, the government did not bother to take up any measures to address the drought situation and also failed to write-off farm loans,” he said.

Sriramulu said BJP workers are united and have been working tirelessly to achieve the goal of winning 150 seats in 2018 Assembly polls. “A majority of the people in the state have accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and have supported the party. It is not possible for Congress to win the elections with money power,” Sriramulu said.

Muniyappa blasts Prasad
Similarly, Congress MP K H Muniyappa, who campaigned for Kalale N Keshavamurthy at Ashokapuram in the town, said, Srinivas Prasad, who enjoyed all powers and status, was not committed towards the principles and ethics of Congress.

“It is not new for Prasad to change political ideologies. Prasad had joined hands with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to become a minister. Prasad is projecting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as an anti-Dalit. How can one term the CM as anti-Dalit when he has introduced several welfare schemes and has earmarked Rs 27,000 crore for the development of SC/ST communities,” he questioned.

“Congress has appointed Mallikarjuna Kharge, a Dalit, as Opposition leader in Lok Sabha but BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa is trying to fool voters with his false statements against the Congress and its leaders,” he said. Congress district president Dr B J Vijay Kumar and MLC R Dharmasena were also present.
