BJP stooping low to tarnish my image: Geetha Prasad

Last Updated 28 March 2017, 18:56 IST
Congress candidate for Gundlupet Assembly bypolls Geetha Mahadev Prasad (M C Mohana Kumari) turned emotional during a press conference in Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district on Tuesday. Geetha said the humiliation caused by BJP leaders with an intention to tarnish her image had deeply hurt her.

Geetha told reporters that, “The statements by the BJP leaders was causing mental harassment. BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa, who attended the funeral of my husband H S Mahadev Prasad, had placed his hand on my head and had assured that it was his responsibility to see that she is elected unanimously but later, the BJP fielded a candidate for the bypolls,” she said.

“I had seen Yeddyurappa as a fatherly figure. MP Shobha Karandlaje too had visited my house and had instilled confidence in me while I was mourning. I decided to contest the polls only after being supported by Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, party workers and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. If I had known that politics would stoop to such a low level, I would not have entered politics”, she said.

She said media was only projecting the statements issued by BJP leaders. “Don’t the BJP leaders who issue such derogatory statements against a woman have mothers and sisters?” she questioned. KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, ministers U T Khader and D K Shivakumar were also present.
