Swami Vivekananda Planetarium to have '8K' 3D Digistar-6 projection system

Infovision Technologies Pvt Ltd Managing Director and CEO Abhijit B Shetye said that Swami Vivekananda Planetarium has been enabled with '8K' 3D Digistar 6 projection system developed by Evans and Sutherland (E&S). Infovision Technologies is a Mumbai based firm working on the installation of the system.

The planetarium measuring 5200 square feet has 200 seats and 18-metre unidirectional dome set to a 15-degree angle to give an immersive experience for viewers. In addition, a temporary gallery on astronomy is also being constructed.

The salient features are active stereo 3D, megastar IIA optical hybrid system and 5.1 surround sound. The system makes use of five christie mirage 4K 3D stereo projectors and a spitz nanoseem projection surface. The hybrid system enables the presentation of classic opto-mechanical start projection, along with an ultra-high resolution full dome projection for pre-rendered shows and real-time image generation during the shows.

The digital projection system has arrived in Pilikula. The opto-mechanical system has come from Tokyo, Japan and active 3D 8K digital projection systems from Salt Lake, America. The two projection systems and nanoseam dome cost Rs 21.50 crore.

The opto-mechanical system and active 3D 8K digital projection system is being installed by experts from Japan and America, with the assistance of technicians from Nasik.

Abhijit said that a new show will be projected every month, focusing on astronomy, earth science, global warming and related things. The narration will be run in the Kannada language as well.
