JOIN USManasu MalligeyKannada (U) Cast: Rinku Rajguru, Nishant, Director: S Narayan Remakes are always twin-edged sword. Whether, despite director Narayan’s stellar reputation, his Kannada rendition Manasu Malligey of stupendously successful Marathi film Sairat will mirror it, is indeed moot. The Marathi flick also caught critics fancy as well.
Narayan, despite staying true to the original, however, falls woefully short of the hype and expectations it had created in the run-up to its release. In trying to embellish it with his own brand of stylish stamp, Narayan renders Manasu Malligey more of a glossy fare than conscious rousing and hard hitting flick.
How caste-ridden society, which frowns upon acts that goes against the traditional norms, conducts its own surgical strikes to thwart the romance between lowly Parshu and his much better placed Sanju, daughter of local politician forms Manasu’s tragic tale. Another major let down with Manasu is Rinku herself who fared much better in the Marathi original.
With Sairat already having made much noise both at home and abroad, Manasu Malligey is indeed an adventurous attempt whose fortune lies in the local audiences hands.
