Senior BJP leader R Ashoka on Sunday said developments in the state Congress will soon lead to G Parameshwara being divested  of the post of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Ashoka said he has information that Parameshwara will be removed as chief of the state Congress soon after completion of the bypolls to Gundlupet and Nanjangud Assembly constituencies.

Ashoka said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is sidelining Dalit leaders in the Congress to safeguard his seat. “V Srinivas Prasad and Parameshwara are two prominent Dalit leaders. Prasad was sidelined in the party and now Parameshwara will face a similar fate.”

On how he is privy to the information, Ashoka said, “I have worked as Home Minister and I have my sources.”

Ashoka said it was because of Prasad’s political clout in the old Mysuru region that Siddaramaiah could win from the Varuna assembly seat in the 2013. “It was (former Railways Minister) C K Jaffer Sharief and (former minister) H Vishwanath who helped Siddaramaiah to join the Congress. But it seems that Siddaramaiah has no gratitude for people who have helped him,” he added.

On Sharief writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi backing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for the post of President, Ashoka said the development indicated that “The Congress is a sinking ship”.

He said former chief minister S M Krishna will campaign in Gundlupet and Nanjangud from Monday onwards.
