Mount diplomatic offensive to free Jadhav: Congress

Last Updated 11 April 2017, 04:45 IST
Congress on Tuesday demanded that the Modi government immediately mount a diplomatic offensive to secure the release of Kulbhushan Jadhav, an alleged Indian spy who is on a death row in Pakistan.

Seeking intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure Jadhav’s release, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the BJP government needs to go beyond issuing advisories.

“India needs to immediately mount a International diplomatic offensive to free Kulbhushan Jadhav,” Surjewala said on Twitter.

The Congress is raising the issue of the death sentence awarded to Jadhav by a secret Pakistani court in both the Houses of Parliament.

“A hurried trial and a pre-meditated judgement on Kulbhushan Jadhav without notice to India is symptomatic of Pakistan’s kangaroo justice,” the Congress said adding that the death sentence was a deliberate provocation to India.
