Modi hails budget session for passing 35 bills

A month before the NDA government completes third anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed budget session of parliament for passing 35 bills including the economic reform enabling GST legislations. Describing it as a "winner" for tresury benches, upbeat Modi said the opportunity should be used to push development agenda.  He also spoke about the "positive" mood among people reflected in sweeping win for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal in the just held assembly elections.

In his address to the BJP Parliamentary Party twenty hours before the second half of budget session ends, he said, "This is a golden opportunity for us to lift the lives of the poor, the deprived...This is the time for doing more development and reforms".

After the meeting was over which was attended by party chief Amit Shah and senior leaders including LK Advani, Rajnath SIngh and Arun Jaitley, parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar stated the PM said this is a winner session for the government. "In this budget session, Lok Sabha passed 21 bills and Rajya Sabha cleared 14 bills including GST bills," Kumar told the reporters.
 
Referring to emphatic UP win, Kumar qouted Modi as saying that the hope people had with his government in 2014 has now been translated into confidence. Information and broadcasting minister Venkaiah Naidu told party MPs that in the last night's meeting of 33 NDA allies, leaders such as former Punjab CM and Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal and Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu lauded Modi for his "transformative" leadership.  According to parliamentary affairs minister, Naidu stated that "Modi has emerged as the poor's messiah".

During the meeting, the BJP parliamentarians were told by Naidu about a one-month long programme to celebrate the government's third anniversary from May 24. To prepare a dossier on government achievements, information and broadcasting ministry has asked all ministeries to furnish it details of five each major initiatives that would be showcased. The 22-day long session will end on Wednesday.
