Expelled from Congress for criticising Rahul Gandhi, Barkha Singh joins BJP

A day before the Delhi municipal polls, expelled Congress leader Barkha Sukhla Singh on Saturday joined BJP after praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his belief in "composite development".

Singh, who was Congress' Delhi women wing chief, was expelled from Congress after she criticised party Vice President Rahul Gandhi saying he does not have the capacity to lead the party.

"Congress leadership has totally lost contact with the people, for long I was feeling suffocated in the party with no forum available to express my views which ultimately resulted in my quitting Congress," she told reporters after joining the party in the presence of Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel and BJP National Vice President Shyam Jaju.

"Like most people of the country, I have realised that the policies of Prime Minister Narender Modi of composite development for all fulfill the aspiration of the people and so I have decided to unconditionally join BJP," she said.

She said she has joined the BJP neither to fight elections nor she is aiming for any position, but to work hard for assignments that will be given to her. Singh's joining the party comes days after senior Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely and Delhi Youth Congress chief Amit Malik quit Congress to cross over to the BJP in the midst of civic poll campaigning.
