At a time when the national is going though intense debate on secularism and tolerance, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui came out with a strong statement on the social media and articulated the importance of being secular in India.

The 42-year-alumnus of National School of Drama, who has acted in several superhit films and his known for his discinct acting style, posted a clip clip titled ‘Sixteen Point Six Six’,  that aims at bringing an end to religious discrimination.

In the message, he starts with “Hi, I am Nawazuddin Siddiqui" and then went on to add that that he tested his DNA and it was  revealed he was 16.66% Hindu,16.66% Muslim,16.66% Sikh,16.66% Buddhist and 16.66% all the other religions in the world.  At the end of the video, he finds his soul, which shows he is 100 per cent artiste.

Instead of speaking, Siddiqui, who has acted in films like Black Friday, Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur,  Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Manjhi - The Mountain Man and  Raees, uses placards in the 20-second video to make his point felt and message sent across.

This assumes significance in the wake of the recent statement on Twitter by singer Sonu Nigam in which he said questioned azaan on loudspeakers - following which he received mixed reactions. Recently, veteran filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has also been the target of groups over his under-production film Padmavati.
