Hoax bomb call triggers panic at Mandya rly station

Tension prevailed for a while at Mandya railway station as the police control room received an anonymous phone call about the presence of explosives on the premises on Tuesday.

According to sources, the Mandya police control room received an anonymous phone call at 1.52 pm warning of a bomb at the city railway station. The railway police was soon alerted.

Police personnel, bomb detection and disposal squad, sniffer dog squad and Railway Protection Force rushed to the spot and searched for the explosives.

Police sniffer dog ‘Rambo’ was also pressed into service. The team, however, did not find any explosives after a thorough search which lasted for around one-and-a-half hour. The luggage and bags of passengers, dustbins, parcels and others were checked.

The sudden flurry of activities with the police and bomb squad arriving at the station and carrying out the search operation created anxiety among the passengers.

However, they heaved a sigh of relief after Circle Inspector K Santhosh explained to the passengers that the whole area had been searched and no explosive was found.

Additional SP Savitha and Railway Police ASI Suresh were present.
