JOIN USCoorg continue winning run
Hockey Coorg continued their fine run at the 7th Hockey India Sub-Junior National Championship (Division ‘B’) with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Citizens XI here on Tuesday.
Coorg, who had drubbed Vidarbha in their first match on Monday, led by a goal in the first half before netting four more in the second in a dominant display.
In the Pool C match, Coorg took the lead through Yashwanth K M in the 25th minute. After half-time, Vinesh Poovaiah struck in the 37th minute and added another in the 70th. In between, Ashik Uthappa (45th) and Chetan M K (65th) netted to boost Coorg’s tally.
In the same pool, Bengal scored a 4-1 win over Hockey Himachal while the other two teams in the pool, Vidarbha HA and Telengana Hockey, who lost their respective matches on Monday, drew 2-2.
The last match of the day between Vidarbha and Telangana was an intense affair. Numerous goal scoring opportunities were created by both the teams but they failed to convert them into goals.
Skipper Kaustubh Badaria opened scoring for Vidarbha in the 25th minute from a set piece. Raunak Choudhary doubled it in the 30th minute. Telangana retaliated with a 35th minute penalty corner goal by their captain Ravi Teja Cheekati. They drew level in the 66th minute through a goal from Rohan Yemula.
Former internationals Allan Schofield, Ramesh Parameshwaran, Jude Felix and Ashish Ballal were felicitated on the day.
