CBSE to hold NET in July

Last Updated 26 April 2017, 19:41 IST

The CBSE has been asked to continue holding the National Eligibility Test (NET) and other tests till the proposed National Testing Agency is set up and operationalised.

“The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) earlier this week,” official sources told DH.

This comes after the uncertainty over holding of the second round of the nationwide test loomed large with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issuing no notification for it.

The NET is conducted twice a year — in July and December. A notification for holding the test is issued at least two months in advance.

However, the CBSE did not issue any notification.

This led to confusion on whether the test will be held in July or not, as the CBSE had last year requested the HRD ministry to relieve it from the responsibility. In January, the ministry made it clear to the CBSE that it cannot be relieved of its responsibility until the proposed National Testing Agency is set up.
