Concern over pathetic condition of lakes

Last Updated 26 April 2017, 20:13 IST

The BBMP council expressed concern over the pathetic condition of lakes in the city.

Congress corporator (Peenya Industrial Area) Lalitha Thimmananjaiah said two lakes in her ward are polluted and have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Soon other corporators too joined the discussion and raised the issue of poor condition of Kempambudhi Lake, Agara Lake and Varthur lake.

BBMP chief engineer (lakes) Somashekhar, who was summoned to answer the queries on the lakes in BBMP’s custody, said a detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared to develop 19 lakes and tenders have been sent to the government for approval. Mayor G Padmavathi quipped that the Palike would never rise beyond tenders and DPRs. She said the Kempambudhi lake is in a poor shape due to effluents.
