JOIN USBengal Hockey Association dashed Hockey Coorg’s hope of reaching the semifinals with a 4-3 win in a Pool C tie of the 7th Hockey India Sub-junior Championship at the Hockey Stadium here on Sunday.
Coorg finished their campaign on 12 points while Bengal collected 13 points to top the group.
Siddharth Kumar put Bengal ahead in the 16 minute and Kallu Ali doubled their advantage four minutes later. Chethan MK then reduced the deficit for Coorg in the 31st minute but Bengal restored their lead three minutes later through Rabi Shankar Yadav.
In the second half, Coorg started strongly and pulled one back in the 48th minute through Ashik Uthappa MP and eight minutes later Vinesh Poovaiah scored to bring the scores level. However, Ali netted again in 69th minute to win the game for Bengal.
