Cases booked against Digvijaya for his comments on Telangana Police

Cases were booked against AICC General Secretary and In charge of Telugu states, Digvijaya Singh here on Thursday for his tweets on Telangana police alleging that they are encouraging Muslim youth to join ISIS through fake websites.

Based on a complaint filed by Telangana Rahstra Samithi legislator M Gopinath three days ago, the Banjara Hills police booked cases against the senior Congress leader under sections 501 and 505 for printing defamatory matter and provoking breach of peace. Police initiated the step only after taking legal advice, a senior officer said.

Digvijaya Singh on Monday stoked controversy by tweeting that Telangana police have set up a bogus web site in the name of ISIS to trap Muslim youth by encouraging them to join the radical group. Digvijaya wanted to know whether chief minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao authorized Telangana police to trap Muslim youths. He demanded KCR to order an investigation and initiate action on the police responsible for running the fake site.

Following his tweets Telangana Home Minister Narasimha Reddy demanded apology from Digvijaya saying that the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh intentionally degraded Telangana police which is considered as one of the best in the country. However Digvijaya refused to budge and reiterated his statement.
