Following the success of five of its institutes, including two in Mumbai, the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) is planning to expand its footprint to Udupi and Varanasi.

“We are planning IIGJs in Udupi and Varanasi. The land scouting has begun for the Udupi institute and we should be able to finalise it within the next couple of months. As far as Varanasi is concerned, the institute should be up and running in the next four to five months,” IIGJ chairman Kirit Bhansali told DH.

The Udupi institute is likely to have investments of around Rs 5 crore and will have courses as per local requirement and mainly deal with valuation, grading and crafting. The Mumbai facilities at Andheri and Tardeo are also planned to be expanded in the months to come, Bhansali added.
The Udupi institute will look at targetting people from Karnataka, Coimbatore and surrounding areas in South and should be ready in around six months.
