Alternative sites to 4K Arkavathy allottees in Kempegowda Layout

Last Updated 12 May 2017, 20:07 IST
Allottees awaiting sites in the “jinxed” Arkavathy Layout will soon get a site of the same dimension in Kempegowda Layout and at the same cost.

A decision in this regard was taken at the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said that after a detailed discussion a decision was taken to allot alternative sites.

“Allottees will be given sites of the same dimension allotted to them in Arkavathy Layout and at the same price. If people are interested, they can approach the BDA with an application and, alternative site will be allotted at Kempegowda layout,” he said.

BDA members and Congress MLAs S T Somashekar and Byrathi Basavaraj, who were present at the meeting, said a final decision on this will be taken at the BDA board meeting scheduled on May 23.

“Around 4,000 Arkavathy allottees need to be given alternative sites. The BDA has also been directed to complete the infrastructure works at the earliest at Kempegowda layout,” they said.

A BDA official said that earlier the government had agreed to give alternative sites at market rate in Kempegowda Layout. But, Arkavathy allottees were not interested to pay more for the plots. The BDA hopes to allot them sites surrendered by allottees at Kempegowda Layout.

New road

Siddaramaiah gave in-principle clearance to the BDA to construct a 10.5-km long and 100-metre wide road from Rajarajeshwarinagar hospital to Seegehalli on Magadi road.

The BDA will acquire 321 acres for the work. He also cleared the proposal for constructing a four-lane Kunigal to Byadarahalli road at a cost of Rs 343 crore and eight-lane Kumbalgod to Mysuru corridor at the cost of Rs 10,000 crore. The projects will be funded by the Central government, Somashekar said.

He also gave his approval for amending the BDA Act and, land losers’ land sharing ratio from 60:40 to 50:50.

“To implement the 50:50 land sharing ration, the BDA rules need to be amended. The BDA has been told to prepare its draft which will be cleared at the board meeting on May 23. It will then be sent to the government for final clearance. Those who will be losing their land for the road construction between Rajarajeshwarinagar and Magadi Road will be given sites under 50:50 sharing scheme,” Somashekar said.

If farmers are losing less than an acre, say, 10 to 20 guntas, they will be given monetary compensation. But, if it is above an acre, then the compensation will be in the form of land. This road is part of the Kempegowda Layout via Kumbalgod.
